Episode 37: Giving Geek a Whole New Name At InfoComm 2017

Join the Crew host Corey Moss, Katye McGregor Bennett, Justin Watts, Ruben Romero and Taylor Meyer as they welcome their guests:

Heather Sidorowicz – President/Owner at Southtown Audio/Video

John Greene – Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Advanced AV

Bobby Swartz – Director of Marketing and Development at Starin Marketing

– And a special surprise call-in at the beginning of the show.

InfoComm is over and The Crew is back, as they and their guests came to this show really happy – or overtired and punchy after a week in Orlando. We think the choice is obvious.

Heather Sidorowicz, a great woman in AV and the first @The_AVLife Twitter follower selected to be a summer guest of the show (on the summer solstice no less), brings her commercial and resi world knowledge to the this episode as the well-known owner of an AV integration company in upstate New York. The best thing about Heather is that she brings the tech knowledge, and the Chi (@tech_chi to be exact). In fact she leads us in a special session which makes everyone feel better. Well, almost everyone (we’re not sure about that caller).

John Greene, who you’ll find after listening to this episode comes with every episode of The AV Life that you purchase (a terrific value at $0), brings the #AVtweeps wise man view of InfoComm to the show and if you stick around till the end you may just learn a thing or two from him. Or you’ll wonder why you’ve listened to every episode of every show he’s ever done in AV podcasting.

Bobby Swartz gets all dressed up for this one, though he eventually realized it’s an audio podcast (talk about confused).

A great post-InfoComm 2017 podcast – sit back, plug in, put your feet up and get ready to break through with the Crew as we live…

Episode 36: Tech, Beers and Da Brawns (A Special)

Join the Crew host Katye McGregor Bennett, Corey Moss, Justin Watts, Megan Powers, Jeremy Elsesser and Joey D’Angelo as they welcome their guests:

Alan Brawn – Principal at Brawn Consulting
– and his partner in beers and tech…
Jonathan Brawn – Principal at Brawn Consulting

On a very special episode of The AV Life, the Crew get together with the Brawns, display technology/digital signage gurus and craft beer aficionados to kick back and shoot the breeze over some quality beers (well, mostly) and InfoComm too.

The Brawns along with each of the Crew members talk about their beer and tech stories, with some insightful thoughts along with fun moments – probably more of the latter.

How does beer and technology mix? Jeremy Elsesser will tell you as he talks about InfoComm and how this all apparently becomes synonymous with it. So many choices to make when it comes to booth stops during happy hours and social get togethers, however again the tie-in to all of that – that’s right, the beers.

As for Da Brawns, there is much wisdom from Alan of course and we certainly get it on this show. In fact where else can you get twice the Brawns with twice the wisdom? Katye knows the answer, and she tells.

There’s someone on this show drinking a beer that just doesn’t go with the others according to – everyone. Who is it? And why is this person still on this show? There’s some buzz taking place on this one, and someone will win. You just have to hear it, along with all of the tech, beer and Da Brawns. And make sure you hashtag it. All of it.

Who’s the Crew member in top form on this one? This one’s a slam dunk for Justin Watts, The AV Life’s beer and tech rep. Manufacturers have their product reps, we have ours.

We get in a little more of that Brawns wisdom toward the end, make sure you listen for it as this is the one place you can get it, while relaxing and drinking a beer. Enjoy this last show (before The Show) in the virtual bar, with the real Brawns.

Sit back, plug in and join us for our own pre-InfoComm happy hour with the Crew and two great AV people as we live…

Dan Jackson – Director, Enterprise Technology at Crestron

Wayne Driggers – Channel and Alliance Development at Zoom Video Communications

David Schweer – Director Product Marketing at Prysm

(Devan Gillick of Prysm also joined us).

Corey Crews this one solo, starting the conversation with discussion of Ruben Romero’s Buzz Term of the Week on the last show “AV/IT convergence” and Dan Jackson begins what turns out to be a very insightful discussion along with the other guests. Discussion focuses on work, technology tools, innovation, the experience and more.

Next is discussion of the enterprise end user workforce, the remote worker and how collaboration can reduce geographic boundaries. There’s also mention of that major enterprise corporation that recently brought their employees back to the office, even with all of the enhanced unified communications and collaboration technologies that exist.

Wayne begins the company discussions as he talks about Zoom from their start to now, focusing on the Zoom experience, their user community and the CEO’s very important mantra. Dan Jackson talks about Crestron Mercury (which launched at ISE) and mass deployments of the product. He talks about how Mercury makes the end user more agile, and how an organization can standardize on the solution. He also discusses a Crestron Mercury announcement that will be made at InfoComm, along with building enterprise meeting rooms with the product. David focuses discussion on the new Prysm Go, which transforms any meeting room into a multi-purpose collaboration room. David also talks about visual collaboration, digital workplace and innovation.

David also discusses presenting at InfoComm Center Stage (“Six Realities Disrupting the Workplace”), along with co-presenting with Dr. Thomas Osborne (“We ARE Saving Lives Here – How the Future of Healthcare Depends on AV Technology”). Wayne talks about the market verticals that Zoom focuses on along with corporate, with focused discussion of healthcare and higher education. Dan talks about Crestron’s flexibility in serving any vertical, and discusses the products and solutions being showcased at the booth, along with a focus on enterprise room solutions at the showrooms which will be at the booth as well. Dan is also presenting at Center Stage (“Voice Control Sounds Better and Better”).

Finally, there’s always some fun that goes on at the show and the guests discuss this as well some of the activities going on at the booth (and of course that after-party which many want to attend).

So sit back, plug in and join us for an excellent conversation on UC, collaboration and InfoComm 2017 as we live…

Episode 34: Picking Up Speed on The Road to InfoComm 2017

Join the Crew: Host Corey Moss, Katye McGregor Bennett, Justin Watts, Alesia Hendley, Ruben Romero and Taylor Meyer as they welcome their guests:

Jeremy Elsesser – President at Level 3 Audiovisual

John Greene – Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Advanced AV

Justin Rexing – AV Design Engineer at Western Kentucky University/Sr. Managing Partner at Rexing Consulting

It’s June, and we’re just over a week away from the big one – InfoComm 2017 in Orlando Florida! On this episode three well-known AV industry professionals join the Crew to talk about the show, and in fact John begins talking about something no one expected which has nothing to do with tech or trade shows, but still a conversation that mattered – to him. And then a hashtag was born…

Ruben begins a new segment on this one which should appeal to marketers (or maybe not), and then Taylor talks about her new nickname and attending InfoComm for the first time. The conversation begins with Katye and all that she’s doing in preparation for the show with KMB Communications, along with the clients she represents. John picks up talking about what InfoComm means to him and what he enjoys about attending the show, along with thoughts from the integrator perspective as well as planning. Jeremy, a CTS-D, CTS-I, picks up on the conversation and talks about the “human connection” factor at the show. He also talks about teaching at InfoComm (he’ll be teaching CTS-D prep with a well-known InfoComm award recipient). Justin Rexing who is a CTS-D has taught at InfoComm for six years (he teaches with Chuck Espinoza this year) and discusses what he looks to do at InfoComm, including education sessions.

Justin Watts also talks about teaching at the show which he has been doing for five years now, along with how he’s attending for the first time in a different professional role. He has a “day three method” of teaching too – listen in for this one. After a few promotional announcements at the break announced by Corey and Alesia (where John also talks about the social media platform he doesn’t get), the conversation focuses on technologies at the show and what each guest is looking for. There’s “on the network” as well as cybersecurity talk here too as it’s of course a hot-button discussion in the industry. There is digital signage discussion here as well, as there is a major focus at the show in being one of the Pavilions. Jeremy and Justin Rexing add in a very good discussion of AV as a Service. Finally, talk about the collaboration board.

To end, all talk about the after-hours at the show – find out who the real partiers are.

So sit back, plug in and join us as we rev up on this one and live…
