Episode 93: Welcome to the Mind Shift

Join the Crew host Michelle Loret, Corey Moss, Steven Picanza and JoAnn Arcenal as they welcome their guests:

Chris Fitzsimmons – Product Manager at Biamp Systems
Jimmy Vaughn – UC Technical Product Manager at Crestron
Chad Wiggins – Senior Director Networked Audio Systems at Shure Incorporated
Bill Cherne – Director of Field Engineering at Sonic Foundry Inc.
Derrick Kelly – National Director of Technical Service Operations at Whitlock

Many types of discussions occur in the audio visual industry – including in-company and client meetings, panels and networking conversations at trade shows, and social media interactions. Over the last few years the AV industry has seen changes and enhancements in technology innovation, approaches and implementation like never before, to go along with these daily discussions.

On this episode, we’ve invited five guests from well-known companies to talk about the industry based on these questions:

What is it that you do? Each guest gives a short “elevator pitch” on what it is exactly.

Has the term audio visual finally reached its shelf life? If yes, and you were asked to provide a new term (or statement) to replace it, what would it be? If no, why (and how) do you still consider the term as a descriptor to be relevant?

– Chris Neto (@chris_neto) proposed a question for the Sunday Twitter #AVintheAM conversation on 8/5: Do you consider the AV industry to be more reactive or proactive towards trends and tech? Do we wait for new ideas to come from other sectors? Do customers request them? Do we now wait for the Consumer side to deliver acceptance (I.e. Voice)?

Do you believe the industry overall (manufacturers, consultants, integrators) is properly focused on the numerous stakeholders in enterprise and higher ed organizations, including C-levels and tech managers – or still for the most part the facilities manager?

Sit back, plug in, listen to the guests and Crew discuss the questions and topic as we live…

Episode 85: Return from Hot Vegas: The Evening InfoComm 2018 Exhibitor Show (Part 1)

Join the Crew host Corey Moss, Katye McGregor Bennett, Michelle Loret, Kaleo Lee and Alan Brawn as they welcome their guests:

(In order of appearance – Part 1)

Chris Fitzsimmons – Product Manager at Biamp Systems
Lisa Kirtly – President and Co-Founder at Total Channel
Lauren Simmen – Manager, Marketing at AMETEK Electronic Systems Protection (SurgeX and ESP)
Aurangzeb Kahn – President & CEO at Altia Systems, Inc.

InfoComm 2018 in Las Vegas – what can we say (really)? Another big show, true innovation, outstanding events, and the first time for AVIXA. The exhibitors – we have seven of the many on the evening show (we had eight on the daytime Episode 84).

Chris begins talking about a big award win at the show (literally), as well as discussing new products shown at ISE and InfoComm for Tesira. Brand new for Biamp (shown at InfoComm) is SageView, and Chris details this software for tech and IT managers – along with a brand new product he’s working on. He also talks about Rashid Skaf, his first InfoComm as CEO at Biamp. Alan and Michelle add discussion here.

Next, Lisa talks about starting in the business on the broadcast and integration side, and then moving into manufacturing growing into what Total Channel is today – hardware and software-based digital signage. She details what Total Channel does in terms of product and support, including new features that they introduced at InfoComm (“signage on steroids” as she says). She also details their video wall processor line, showcased at InfoComm this year with a new 4K video wall processor, along with a new IP layer. Alan adds key discussion on digital signage here.

Chris and Lisa, before they have to go, answer the question about how they live the AV life. Lauren continues with talking about SurgeX large format UPS’s and new products brought to InfoComm. She also talks about a developers area at the booth, allowing them to bring more useful products to the integrators. Alan also adds here, talking about how SurgeX addresses power issues. Michelle adds to the discussion as well. Aurangzeb is next, talking about Altia Systems, the manufacturer of Panacast, and new technology they had built and showcased at InfoComm, to go along with the great level of interest they received at the show. All on the show are impressed as well, and Michelle had a bit of FOMO – you’ll hear about it…

Lauren and Aurangzeb answer that question in Part 2.

Episode 59: Holiday Party Edition II – Bringing a Year of AV Cheer (Part 1)

(See episode with pictures on convergentav.net)

Join co-hosts Corey Moss, Katye McGregor Bennett, Megan Powers and George (Santa) Fournier as they welcome their guests for the second annual holiday episode on The AV Life.

The guests joined in four separate groups, here in Part 1 you’ll hear those in groups one and two.

In group one we have:
Randy Pagnan – President/Owner, and Brandy Alvarado – Marketing and Business Development Manager at rp Visual Solutions
Penny Sitler – Marketing Manager at Draper, Inc.
Adrian Doughty – National Sales Manager at Nureva
Apryl Lamberti – Director of Business Development – Hospitality at Almo Professional A/V

Corey hosts the first group as Adrian Doughty begins by talking about some of the big things taking place with Nureva, Randy and Brandy (who were re-named for the show) talk about the business as well as a recent big project, Apryl Lamberti discusses a number of things happening in Almo Professional A/V’s Hospitality Division, and Penny Sitler talks about some of the big occurrences for Draper, from the rebrand to the launch of their new website. An “unplanned guest” joins in, and the group gets to answer a trivia question about a company that has been in the industry for a very long time.

Group two brought us two InfoComm 2017 Award Winners, 4 CTS-Duals, and a woman who flies drones professionally and may have qualified as a wiring nightmare.

Bill Nattress (CTS-D, CTS-I) – Director of Channel Strategy – Paging at Biamp Systems  (CTS Holder of the Year)
James Maltese (CTS-D, CTS-I) – President at Audio Visual Resources  (Educator of the Year)
Paul Zielie (CTS-D, CTS-I) – Manager, Enterprise Solutions at Harman Professional
Jake Corlett (CTS-D, CTS-I) – Regional Manager – North Central at Biamp Systems
Christina Engh – COO at UAS Solutions Group

Katye takes over hosting group two (after keeping her dog Jackson from grabbing her antlers) talking with all about how they are, what they’re doing and why Christina is dressed the way she is. Last year’s ugly sweater winner Jake Corlett decided to let someone else win this year. Paul talks about what he had to leave to join all on the show, James might be looking to go for the contest wins, and brings a very good AV and data conversation to the show. Bill discusses how he’s winding down for the year, and talks wine and music too. A true AV and drones trivia question for this group, listen in.

Sit back, plug in, and enjoy Part 1 of The AV Life holiday show!
