Episode 71: The Digital Signage Federation: History, Insights, Education and the Forward Movement of the Digital Signage Industry

On this episode of The AV Life, the Crew talks with their three Board of Directors guests – Brian Gorg who is the Digital Signage Federation’s Executive Director, Spencer Graham who is the Vice Chairman of the DSF and Wayne Rasor, a newer member of the Board.     

Alan Brawn starts it off talking about the DSF and the digital signage industry, where he also points to what the DSF has meant to the industry. Alan brings a digital signage industry historical perspective to this where he equates it to something that needed a real focus to form and function, this in terms of the formation and growth of the organization. Alan was Chairman of the DSF (Rich Ventura, Vice President of Strategy at NEC Display Solutions is is the current Chairman) and he talks about the Federation and the great focus to industry education. 

Spence then talks about being the Vice Chairman of the DSF and his perspective of the digital signage industry over the years. He points out the difference between federation vs. association, along with how this applies to the industry and the Board’s ongoing development. He talks about meeting Alan and his career which began in higher education, where he also talks about the importance of education in the digital signage industry, along with his involvement with the education committee of the DSF.  

Brian talks about the DSF and what it encompasses as a professional society. He gives his perspective on the industry, and discusses honing in on three things: professional development, certifications and standards. He also talks about the international view of thought leaders in the DSF. Alan then expands on this conversation as he discusses the diversity of the digital signage industry. 

Wayne talks about what it has meant to him to be on the DSF Board along with seeing the industry from a very different perspective. He also focuses discussion on educating, and how the DSF is supporting industry education. 

Michelle, being a Pro AV professional, talks about pro AV and asks the guests how more companies can be better informed and educated on how they can bring digital signage, content creation and more to the customers. Wayne, Spence and Alan provide input here.
