Episode 73: The Digital Signage Expo Post Show – A Unanimous Game Changer

Join the Crew host Corey Moss, Alan Brawn, Jonathan Brawn and Michelle Loret as they welcome their guests:

Ann Holland – Vice President, Marketing at Brightsign
Tom Mann – EVP, VP of Sales & Operations at 22 Miles
Ken Hosac – VP of IoT Strategy & Business Development at Cradlepoint
Remi Del Mar – Sr. Product Manager – Visual Display Solutions at Epson America

It’s a new season on ‘The AV Life’ (wait till you hear what season it is)! The Digital Signage Expo was an incredible show, and Corey, Alan and Jonathan are back to talk about it with their guests who exhibited there. The show begins with Jonathan talking about DSE, as well as a special moment for Alan who received a very special inaugural award (named after him).

The conversation begins with Remi as she talks about what Epson America did at the show, and how they brought game changing to the table with projection and creating engaging experiences. Alan picks up on the projection conversation here too. Remi also mentions working with Brightsign.

Ann is next also talking about creating experiences in digital signage, and Brightsign as a leader in digital signage media players and CMS. Jonathan and Alan add to the discussion here as well. Tom Mann talks about 22 Miles software wayfinding solution as well as their AR technology. Alan also talks about 22 Miles wayfinding and Michelle refers to a LinkedIn article that Tom wrote (she also reveals something about Corey’s “experience” at DSE). Ken talks about Cradlepoint and what’s considered different from the standard digital signage technology discussion – talking about their products, digital signage, the network and security. Yes, a game changing discussion to go with the rest.

Finally, Michelle and the Crew talk with Ann about the Women of Digital Signage and their very first (sold out) breakfast at the DSE, a conversation you don’t want to miss. And there’s one final question where you’ll hear some great answers from the guests.

The Digital Signage Expo is next week and the anticipation flows through this show as the guests bring their “A game” to talk about their company, solutions and what the DSE is all about. Stephanie Gutnik, newly elected to the Digital Signage Federation Board of Directors also gives an overview of being on the Board (Brian McClimans is the DSF Treasurer). A few special shout-outs on this show, and a mention of the Women of DS as well.

Steve Picanza, who is ‘The Creative Hustler,’ talks all about OpenEye Global’s mascot Pyxel (check out the hat), and he became the influence for the next segment as each of the other guests got a chance to develop their own brand message – or should we say “hustle it.”

Note: A big thanks to Brian McClimans for contributing “the word” of the show – which also gave us the defining hashtag #EpicDSE.

All begin the show talking about the Digital Signage Federation (DSF), for which Rich is the Chairman, and Alan announces recent additions to the Board, including one person who is on this show. Alan expounds on the DSF as former chairman as well as being a long time educator, and later Rich has a special announcement where Alan’s long time involvement is concerned. Stephanie talks about the DSF and her involvement now within the organization.

Andrea then talks about the Women of Digital Signage group, Katye, Alan and Stephanie also add to the discussion. Stephanie begins discussion about what’s happening at Broadsign, talking about a focus on sales tools and additions to their tech stack for 2018. She also talks about where the AV industry is going concerning digital signage, and Lauren adds to the discussion being from the commercial AV side. Rich then talks about the DSF, the digital signage industry, NEC and also follows up on AV, digital signage and display perspective. There’s some “connected” discussion here too.

Rich starts the trade show talk with ISE 2018 and the technologies there, as well as how he’ll be getting around the show. In the midway there’s the beer talk, and we also find out who our designated podcaster is. We also talk about a hall of fame induction – you do have to hear this discussion. Rich also makes that special announcement here.

We turn to Andrea who discusses this award as well as industry support, and then DSE 2018, as she briefly discusses the show and what will be taking place there – and more to come on The AV Life prior to the show. Stick around as Alan closes up with some important commentary on digital signage including content, analytics, IoT, the DSE, DSF and the Digital Signage Experts Group.
