Episode 131: Living the Higher Ed AV Life

Join the Crew host Tim Van Woeart, Corey Moss, Kym Frank and Maura Quinn as they welcome their guests:

Joe Way – Director of Multimedia Services at California Baptist University
Gina Sansivero – VP of Marketing and Corporate Communications at AtlasIED
Spence Graham – Business Development Manager at Real Digital Media
Renee Benson – Regional Sales Manager, Midwest at NEC Display Solutions
Jessie House – Assistant Director, Digital Media Services at New Jersey Institute of Technology

Here we go – it’s Tim’s turn! Being Senior Project Supervisor at Rutgers University, he’s the perfect choice to host this show – and since Joe is Multimedia Services Director at Cal Baptist University, why not pair the two of them to drive this one?

And you’ll notice something in the title, which leads to a podcast plug during the show (and you’ll find out who on this show has appeared on that one).

The topics of discussion:

When it comes to staying at the forefront of technology, how do you provide the latest and greatest, while at the same time making it accessible to users of all technical levels and still staying with budgetary constraints?

What are the current strategic technologies that are appearing? For those in Education what is the next big thing?

And then, of course it’s time for…

The Firing Range!

When a university bans access to Netflix, iTunes, Spotify and other streaming services on campus, will the students become smarter? Or will they just be spending extra time at Starbucks?

Purdue University bans Netflix, other streaming services for students in academic buildings

Sides are chosen (of course), they’re uneven (of course), and there’s a surprise ending to this one as someone walks away with the win hands down.

Hands down – slam dunk, grand slam, hole in one (you get it).

Toward the end Gina talks about upcoming AVIXA Women’s Council events, Joe plugs away, and Jessie talks about his band. Make sure you attend the AVIXA Women’s events, listen to Joe’s podcast, and follow the band. Trust us.

Sit back, plug in, get edu-teched with Tim, Joe and the rest of the group as we live…

The AV Life.

Episode 78: Time to Power it Up on the Road to InfoComm 2018!

Join the Crew host Corey Moss, Katye McGregor Bennett and Michelle Loret as they welcome their guests;

Adrian Doughty – National Sales Manager at Nureva
Gina Sansivero – Director of Business Development, Education at FSR
Marika Aquino – Managing Partner at Tier PM

We dedicate this podcast, a show about AV, and life – along with this special episode – to the greatest people in any technology stratosphere… the #AVtweeps.

Corey talks about why this is a special episode of the show, and how Katye has been an important part of this ‘The AV Life’ podcast journey as well.  Michelle has been a very important part of the show as well since she joined at the end of January.

And Gina won a Convergent AV Radio award – announced on this show! You’ll hear all about it.

The InfoComm 2018 discussion begins with Adrian talking about Nureva and all – or should we say most – that is going on for InfoComm (and there’s more award winner talk involving our PR Ninja…). Corey also asks Adrian to talk about President and CEO Nancy Knowlton and her leadership, along with discussion of the company and their growth (Corey mentions a recent interview with Nancy on Convergent Tech Talk).  Corey talks about how Nancy is a woman in AV who all in the industry need to know.  Adrian also discusses the “collaboration discussion” in the industry along with how Nureva differentiates.

Marika talks about Tier PM, a leading recruiter in AV and IT, what they do in terms of recruiting in the industry, and what they will be doing at InfoComm. Corey asks Marika to talk about her background before she joined the AV industry, as well as how Marika has been recognized in the industry. Marika also mentions where they will be at the show.

Gina discusses her special award, and then talks about what FSR is doing for InfoComm, (as well as UBTech) – specifically furniture. There’s also discussion about Jan Sandri, President at FSR, Inc. (and another great Woman in AV) in terms of how the company has continued to grow and innovate, and Gina mentions how Jan talks about family and “staying true to their roots.”

Next, Corey talks with all about the InfoComm Reception and Networking events. Tier PM is a sponsor of the AVIXA Women’s Council Breakfast (Marika talks about it) and FSR is a sponsor of the Tech Managers Reception (Gina talks about this).

Nureva is a global partner and sponsor of the TIDE Conference and Adrian discusses this.

And then finally… FREE BEER!

There’s free beer at InfoComm! This discussion actually leads to a more interesting discussion with all on the show. Tune in for this one.

Sit back, plug in, get on the road to InfoComm ’18 with us and live…

Lauren talks about a recent event that took place in Dallas where Christy was the speaker for the evening. Christy talks about the AV community there as well as the group’s foundation, along with two of the women in the group – one who just passed her CTS and another who has a CTS-D. She also talked about one of the men who attended (and supports their efforts), and the others talk about this too.

Katye discusses how women should present themselves professionally, on LinkedIn especially, Cory and Christy also talk about updating professional profiles. Christy also talks about the Career Empowerment Alliances. Gina talks about helping to start up the Boston group, along with what’s taking place in the New York area (and an event that is planned). Penny talks about all of the women who are involved and how proud she is of their efforts, as well as her role as the Chair of the Council. Debbie talks about the group in Seattle and an event that took place with women in different industry roles attending.

Cory gives a call to action about the AVIXA 2018 Women in AV Award. Erica also gives the group a great statement, Christy and Brandy discuss it too – and Penny talks about the importance of getting credentials. Michelle, Lauren and Katye end the show with “the real deal.”
