Episode 93: Welcome to the Mind Shift

Join the Crew host Michelle Loret, Corey Moss, Steven Picanza and JoAnn Arcenal as they welcome their guests:

Chris Fitzsimmons – Product Manager at Biamp Systems
Jimmy Vaughn – UC Technical Product Manager at Crestron
Chad Wiggins – Senior Director Networked Audio Systems at Shure Incorporated
Bill Cherne – Director of Field Engineering at Sonic Foundry Inc.
Derrick Kelly – National Director of Technical Service Operations at Whitlock

Many types of discussions occur in the audio visual industry – including in-company and client meetings, panels and networking conversations at trade shows, and social media interactions. Over the last few years the AV industry has seen changes and enhancements in technology innovation, approaches and implementation like never before, to go along with these daily discussions.

On this episode, we’ve invited five guests from well-known companies to talk about the industry based on these questions:

What is it that you do? Each guest gives a short “elevator pitch” on what it is exactly.

Has the term audio visual finally reached its shelf life? If yes, and you were asked to provide a new term (or statement) to replace it, what would it be? If no, why (and how) do you still consider the term as a descriptor to be relevant?

– Chris Neto (@chris_neto) proposed a question for the Sunday Twitter #AVintheAM conversation on 8/5: Do you consider the AV industry to be more reactive or proactive towards trends and tech? Do we wait for new ideas to come from other sectors? Do customers request them? Do we now wait for the Consumer side to deliver acceptance (I.e. Voice)?

Do you believe the industry overall (manufacturers, consultants, integrators) is properly focused on the numerous stakeholders in enterprise and higher ed organizations, including C-levels and tech managers – or still for the most part the facilities manager?

Sit back, plug in, listen to the guests and Crew discuss the questions and topic as we live…

Episode 90: IoT, AI, OOH, Data and the Marketplace

Join the Crew Corey Moss, JoAnn Arcenal and guest host/moderator Richard Ventura as they welcome their guests:

John DuBois – CEO at Oculus360
Kym Frank – President at Geopath
Steven Keith Platt – Director and Research Fellow at Platt Retail Institute and Research Director at Retail Analytics Council, Northwestern University

After Corey talks with Rich about his recent trip to Croatia (and we find out that one of the guests is a huge soccer fan), along with Integrated Systems Europe and the move to Barcelona in 2021 he turns this episode over to Rich and the three topic expert guests – their companies and organizations:

Oculus360 – AI-powered Insights Platform: in a digital world where you may never meet your customers and competitive barriers to entry are evaporating, the brands that best understand their marketplace and consumer landscape will win.

Geopath is an agile, integrated, passionate, forward-looking organization. They are the OOH industry standard that is powering a smarter OOH marketplace through state-of-the-art audience location measurement, insights and market research innovation.

Platt Retail Institute – Focused on improving the customer experience, PRI helps retailers understand how to use technology to influence customer shopping behavior.

An engaging conversation that involves IoT, AI, robotics, Out-of-Home (OOH), data, analytics and much more – topics of great interest to AV and tech, along with markets served. Rich ends with some future outcome predictions from each of the guests.

Sit back, plug in and listen in to this enlightening (and different) discussion as we live…

Jon 9 – CEO at Holonyne and Techno-Shaman at VIRTULARIUM

On June 21, Jon 9 and his team opened the doors to the public for the first time to experience the future of digital art and entertainment – the VIRTULARIUM VIDEOWALL Gallery.

On this extended episode, in the first half you’ll hear Jon and the Crew talk about the VIDEOWALL Gallery, WALLSITE,* “Gabriel 2..0..2..5” videowall movie, along with creative, digital content and the growth of the videowall market.

In the second half, after a brand new segment brought by Steve Picanza (JoAnn gets in on this too), and the return of the Tier PM ‘Hot Jobs’ (AV and IT), Jon takes over the host seat and asks each of the Crew members a (surprise) technology question – starting with a futuristic one for Jonathan. Jon brings visual harmonics discussion in his conversation with Alan, and talks technology and branding with Steve. Corey gets a different kind of question, where he talks about Jon as the Techno-Shaman of the industry.

At the end of the show, Alan, Jonathan (well, he tries) and JoAnn team up to bring ‘The Final Word.’

Episode 87: InfoComm 2018 the Vibe, the Viewpoints, Top Picks, and Awards – the Wrap

Join the Crew host Corey Moss, Michelle Loret, Kaleo Lee and Alan Brawn as they welcome their guests:

Cory Schaffer – Director, Systems Solutions Global Enterprise Accounts at QSC
JoAnn Arcenal – Director of Marketing at McCann Systems
Leonard Suskin – Senior System Designer at SPECTRA Audio Design Group

After the introductions, the first subject is introduced – the vibe at InfoComm. Along with the vibe discussion come some very interesting perspectives on the show from the guests and the Crew, including the end user discussion in terms of their attendance at the show. Michelle, who comes from the structured cabling world has some very good adds to this discussion from that viewpoint. Cory, from the manufacturer’s viewpoint, talks about the “less is more” in a very interesting perspective. And a really big shoutout to the women in the industry. There’s talk of the AVIXA Women’s Council Breakfast, and influencers who were leading it. Alan talks about his recap of the show – a very good InfoComm products and solutions outcome discussion. Leonard and Corey add to this too. There’s very good discussion of community here as well.

Next is the “Top Picks” discussion where first Corey discusses his Transformative Top Picks at the show (focused on the First Ten). The guests each talk about their top 3 picks at the show – very good picks for each, and Corey has a discussion based on JoAnn’s top pick, something that he encountered last year (a startup company’s product) which he placed in his Top Picks at the show. The Crew get a pick too. Corey also talks about time he spent with QSC’s founders.

Finally, as InfoComm time is big for awards, the Crew give awards to the guests on the show. Michelle gives Cory (and Brandy Alvarado) a special award, Kaleo presents one to JoAnn that will certainly be appreciated by many across the world, and Corey gives a special one to Leonard – stay tuned for that one. Alan wraps it up with ‘The Final Word.’

And – stick around till the end to hear from brand new Crew member Ethan Lee, he’s a host-in-training for when Corey’s ready to retire…

Sit back, plug in, we hope you’ve enjoyed InfoComm 2018 time on the show and just remember two things:
