Episode 120: pAVing the Way to ISE 2019

Join the Crew host Corey Moss and Tim Van Woeart as they welcome their guests:

Peter Herr – Associate Director, Global Marketing, Systems Group at Shure Systems Group
Adrian Doughty – Director, North American Sales at Nureva
Garth Leach – Director of Marketing at ZeeVee
Aurangzeb Khan – President & CEO at Altia Systems, Inc.
Eric Olson – Business Development Manager at Almo Professional A/V

Each of the guests begin by introducing themselves and their companies as well as some of what they’ll be doing at ISE. Tim handles this round, how did he do? Pretty good we believe.

Next each guest gets more in depth about what the company is doing in terms of products, solutions and more. Garth talks about products and certain other companies (along with the SDVoE Alliance) ZeeVee is working with at ISE, he also talks about AV over IP and attendee expectations at the show. Peter talks about Shure audio and applications/environments that the products are used in – he focuses product discussion on Microflex Complete and Microflex Complete Wireless, also board room and huddle room applications. There’s a whole new brand experience, and a tag line – listen in for this.

Adrian talks about Nureva and live remote demos they’ll be doing (Adrian will be participating remotely), and discussing growth in terms of their products and the collaborative space. Aurangzeb talks about Altia Systems, whose year began at CES, and their Panacast camera technology – the new Panacast 3. He talks about CES, and the real differences between that show and ISE. Eric discusses Almo Pro A/V, the company as well as their global focus. He talks about Almo nobox and the new Watchdog solution. He also talks a bit about the E4 AV Tour, which begins in March and makes four stops over the year.

Then, it’s time for an Amsterdam quiz for all of the guests as they’re asked questions about the city and some of the goings-on. The winner may have been totally unexpected… and the prize? Anyone who has been in Amsterdam and craves for that favorite snack food when they return in February – that’s it.

Next some of the guests talk about special promotions at the show (or swag), and all will give reasons why to visit with them at ISE.

Sit back, plug in, and join the Crew and their guests on this first pre-ISE show (show #2 next week!) as we live…

Episode 99: Welcome to the Mind Shift II (Part 2)

Join the Crew host Corey Moss, Kaleo Lee and guest Crew member Derrick Kelly as they welcome their guests:

Adam Cuzzort – Chief Technology Officer, Solutions at Prysm
Wayne Driggers – Channel and Strategic Alliances Leader at Zoom Video Communications
Nic Milani – Executive Director, Commercial Product Marketing at Crestron
Adrian Doughty – National Sales Manager at Nureva
Brad Price – Senior Product Manager at Audinate
Greg Priest – Senior Account Manager at Advanced Presentation Products / APG Displays

As noted in Part 1, on this episode, we’ve invited six guests from well-known companies to talk about the industry based on these questions:

– Hardware of course still carries importance in the industry, however do you believe that this is still mainly a hardware/box-first (or only) thinking industry while IT is primarily a software/cloud-centric industry? If so, what’s to be done in terms of encouraging a greater adoption of technology categories beyond hardware? If not, what are the indicators you see that true such adoption is taking place?

(Continued with Adrian Doughty – Brad Price and Derrick Kelly had left the podcast).

– Do you believe that DIY is a true concern business-wise for the commercial AV integrator, and possibly the manufacturer? If so, what do you think can be done? If not, please explain.

(Kaleo Lee hosts this discussion).

Episode 99: Welcome to the Mind Shift II (Part 1)

Join the Crew host Corey Moss, Kaleo Lee and guest Crew member Derrick Kelly as they welcome their guests:

Adam Cuzzort – Chief Technology Officer, Solutions at Prysm
Wayne Driggers – Channel and Strategic Alliances Leader at Zoom Video Communications
Nic Milani – Executive Director, Commercial Product Marketing at Crestron
Adrian Doughty – National Sales Manager at Nureva
Brad Price – Senior Product Manager at Audinate
Greg Priest – Senior Account Manager at Advanced Presentation Products / APG Displays

As was specified in the first ‘Mind Shift’ episode, many types of discussions occur in the audio visual industry – including in-company and client meetings, panels and networking conversations at trade shows, and social media interactions. Over the last few years the AV industry has seen changes and enhancements in technology innovation, approaches and implementation like never before, to go along with these daily discussions.

On this episode, we’ve invited six guests from well-known companies to talk about the industry based on these questions:

– What do you believe to be the most necessary technology focus (or focuses) to move the industry forward? What do you believe there should be less focus on (if that’s necessary)?

– Hardware of course still carries importance in the industry, however do you believe that this is still mainly a hardware/box-first (or only) thinking industry while IT is primarily a software/cloud-centric industry? If so, what’s to be done in terms of encouraging a greater adoption of technology categories beyond hardware? If not, what are the indicators you see that true such adoption is taking place?

There were very interesting non-technology answers given to the second question as well.

Sit back, plug in, and listen to Welcome to the Mind Shift II (Part 1).

Episode 82: We’ve Got the Power on the Road to InfoComm 2018 – The Exhibitors (2)

Join the Crew host Corey Moss, Katye McGregor Bennett, Michelle Loret and Steven Picanza as they welcome their guests:

Richard Ventura – Vice President of Strategic Management at NEC Display Solutions
Brian McClimans – VP Sales, North America and APAC at Peerless-AV

Adrian Doughty – National Sales Manager at Nureva
David Kung – Vice President, Product Strategy at Oblong Industries Inc.
James Fife – Consultant Extension, Global at rp Visual Solutions

So, on InfoComm exhibitor Episode 81 we had AV Life, and Bacon Life. On this episode, along with AV Life we get Bourbon Life – yet on the previous episode there was talk of bourbon too.

So, if you add 1 and 1, you’ll get 2 episodes of The AV Life that give you 3 AV favorites: bacon, bourbon — and great exhibitors.

Call it the #NewAVMath.

Listen as all of the guests on this show talk about what their companies will be doing at InfoComm 2018.

Laura kicks things off on this one, followed by Dana and Pippa and the others (after an initial check on the ‘Bourbon Room’). There are periodic checks on the Room during the show, specifically to find out exactly what two close industry friends are doing in there.

Will there be any “scoop drops” (again, the Katye McGregor Bennett kind) on this one? Maybe? OK, so we really need to develop that bacon concept from Episode 81.

At the end of the show, the guests play the “lightening round” – make sure to stick around to check it out.

There’s mention of InfoComm Karaoke, and what will Rich and Brian be singing? Right – heaven help us.

That’s all! Sit back, plug in and we’ll see you at InfoComm 2018 where you’ll be sure to get a shot of…

The AV Life.

Episode 78: Time to Power it Up on the Road to InfoComm 2018!

Join the Crew host Corey Moss, Katye McGregor Bennett and Michelle Loret as they welcome their guests;

Adrian Doughty – National Sales Manager at Nureva
Gina Sansivero – Director of Business Development, Education at FSR
Marika Aquino – Managing Partner at Tier PM

We dedicate this podcast, a show about AV, and life – along with this special episode – to the greatest people in any technology stratosphere… the #AVtweeps.

Corey talks about why this is a special episode of the show, and how Katye has been an important part of this ‘The AV Life’ podcast journey as well.  Michelle has been a very important part of the show as well since she joined at the end of January.

And Gina won a Convergent AV Radio award – announced on this show! You’ll hear all about it.

The InfoComm 2018 discussion begins with Adrian talking about Nureva and all – or should we say most – that is going on for InfoComm (and there’s more award winner talk involving our PR Ninja…). Corey also asks Adrian to talk about President and CEO Nancy Knowlton and her leadership, along with discussion of the company and their growth (Corey mentions a recent interview with Nancy on Convergent Tech Talk).  Corey talks about how Nancy is a woman in AV who all in the industry need to know.  Adrian also discusses the “collaboration discussion” in the industry along with how Nureva differentiates.

Marika talks about Tier PM, a leading recruiter in AV and IT, what they do in terms of recruiting in the industry, and what they will be doing at InfoComm. Corey asks Marika to talk about her background before she joined the AV industry, as well as how Marika has been recognized in the industry. Marika also mentions where they will be at the show.

Gina discusses her special award, and then talks about what FSR is doing for InfoComm, (as well as UBTech) – specifically furniture. There’s also discussion about Jan Sandri, President at FSR, Inc. (and another great Woman in AV) in terms of how the company has continued to grow and innovate, and Gina mentions how Jan talks about family and “staying true to their roots.”

Next, Corey talks with all about the InfoComm Reception and Networking events. Tier PM is a sponsor of the AVIXA Women’s Council Breakfast (Marika talks about it) and FSR is a sponsor of the Tech Managers Reception (Gina talks about this).

Nureva is a global partner and sponsor of the TIDE Conference and Adrian discusses this.

And then finally… FREE BEER!

There’s free beer at InfoComm! This discussion actually leads to a more interesting discussion with all on the show. Tune in for this one.

Sit back, plug in, get on the road to InfoComm ’18 with us and live…

Episode 66: Living on the Edge of AV and Exponential Experience

Join the Crew host Corey Moss, Alan Brawn, Justin Rexing and guest member Christina Engh as they welcome their guests:

Kyle Davis – Global Marketing at Harman Professional
Adrian Doughty – National Sales Manager at Nureva

While ISE 2018 is taking place at the RAI in Amsterdam (Crew members Katye McGregor Bennett, Michelle Loret and Jared Huet are there), Corey, Alan, Justin and Christina are back in the U.S. talking with their guests about some of what is taking place at the show, and much more.

Toward the beginning, you’ll hear part of an interview Michelle conducted with Shure (focused on their Microflex Complete Wireless system), and later on in the show you’ll hear Corey talk with Katye about some of what she observed at ISE, including discussion about AVIXA’s presence there.

Kyle begins the guest discussion by talking about Harman (and Samsung), products, and the excitement of where the company is going in 2018. Adrian talks about new products Nureva brought to the show including the brand new Dual HDL300.* Alan then begins with discussion about “2018 as the year for audio visual,” and Justin joins in with perspective of educating the end user.  Corey, Justin, Alan and the guests continue to extend this conversation, talking about industry companies, technologies, integration, the customer –  also talking about the experience. Christina known by many as a drones expert (who has worked with Stampede) brings perspective concerning experience as it alludes to being better educated, which led to education discussion with Alan and Justin who are educators in the industry.

All then talk about those in PR and marketing (Alan begins by talking about Katye and her role in the industry), and Kyle of course gets deep into the discussion as a global marketer in AV. Corey talks about working with global PR and marketing people in AV as well. There’s also discussion of ways of getting industry information and social media.

Excellent closing comments on this show about AV, education, information and the experience (with of course a closing note from Alan Brawn) so make sure you keep listening for those.

Sit back, plug in and experience the AV as we live…

The guests joined in four separate groups, here in Part 1 you’ll hear those in groups one and two.

In group one we have:

An “unplanned guest” joins in, and the group gets to answer a trivia question about a company that has been in the industry for a very long time.

Group two brought us two InfoComm 2017 Award Winners, 4 CTS-Duals, and a woman who flies drones professionally and may have qualified as a wiring nightmare.

Bill Nattress (CTS-D, CTS-I) – Director of Channel Strategy – Paging at Biamp Systems  (CTS Holder of the Year)
James Maltese (CTS-D, CTS-I) – President at Audio Visual Resources  (Educator of the Year)

Katye takes over hosting group two (after keeping her dog Jackson from grabbing her antlers) talking with all about how they are, what they’re doing and why Christina is dressed the way she is. Last year’s ugly sweater winner Jake Corlett decided to let someone else win this year. Paul talks about what he had to leave to join all on the show, James might be looking to go for the contest wins, and brings a very good AV and data conversation to the show. Bill discusses how he’s winding down for the year, and talks wine and music too. A true AV and drones trivia question for this group, listen in.

Sit back, plug in, and enjoy Part 1 of The AV Life holiday show!
