Episode 64: Getting Together to Talk on the Road to AV Utopia – ISE 2018 (Part 2)

We begin the conversation talking beers, and each of the Crew and guests tell what they’ve brought to this one – beginning with The AV Life craft beermeisters the Brawns of course. The exhibitor discussion begins with Brady Bruce talking about the just announced Jupiter PixelNet 2.0 distributed display wall system (update to the award-winning Jupiter PixelNet solution), as well as talking about major announcements concerning projectors, Mondopad and ConX Cloud. Joe Chordas talks about ZeeVee, a manufacturer that has gained prominence in the industry in AV over IP, hiring on a new marketing executive, along with the company celebrating their 10th year bringing their AVoIP solution. Joe also talks about being one of the founding members of the SDVoE Alliance, and looking forward to discussing the Alliance it at ISE. Michelle talks about ZeeVee, and Alan talks about expanding communication paths and the experience, along with getting on board with AVoIP. Joe joins in too, Jonathan and Brady cap off this discussion. 

Greg Mattson talks about QSC Q-SYS Core DSPs and control, the sub-segment of the company which he is responsible for, along with discussing adopting more IT standards and adapting, as is continuous conversation in the industry. Michelle then challenges Greg with a question, which then turns into a very good and insightful conversation about real-time OS, dedicated hardware, networks, and more with Paul, Greg, Michelle and Brady. Listen in to this one. 

David Schweer then discusses visual collaboration at Prysm, their software platform and moving away from proprietary hardware along with supporting other’s interactive display hardware. He also talks about IT being driven by end users, bring your own device and not being a “closed shop.”

There’s ISE discussion brought by the guests of course – Brady talks about what to look for with Canvas, MondoPad and Catalyst (and some major projector discussion too), followed by Joe Chordas discussing new ZeeVee AV distribution products, along wth solutions for medical, David Schweer talks about solutions as well as sessions that Prysm will be participating in (two that he is doing – one about “the meeting”), and Greg talks about booth tours and presentations, he will be doing those on control offerings – followed by a final tech conversation about Python, Lua and JavaScript. and a closing thought from Alan Brawn. 

And beer talk? Of course, we’re headed for Amsterdam!

Episode 59: Holiday Party Edition II – Bringing a Year of AV Cheer (Part 1)

Join co-hosts Corey Moss, Katye McGregor Bennett, Megan Powers and George (Santa) Fournier as they welcome their guests for the second annual holiday episode on The AV Life.

The guests joined in four separate groups, here in Part 1 you’ll hear those in groups one and two.

In group one we have:

Corey hosts the first group as Adrian Doughty begins by talking about some of the big things taking place with Nureva, Randy and Brandy (who were re-named for the show) talk about the business as well as a recent big project, Apryl Lamberti discusses a number of things happening in Almo Professional A/V’s Hospitality Division, and Penny Sitler talks about some of the big occurrences for Draper, from the rebrand to the launch of their new website. An “unplanned guest” joins in, and the group gets to answer a trivia question about a company that has been in the industry for a very long time.

Group two brought us two InfoComm 2017 Award Winners, 4 CTS-Duals, and a woman who flies drones professionally and may have qualified as a wiring nightmare.

Katye takes over hosting group two (after keeping her dog Jackson from grabbing her antlers) talking with all about how they are, what they’re doing and why Christina is dressed the way she is. Last year’s ugly sweater winner Jake Corlett decided to let someone else win this year. Paul talks about what he had to leave to join all on the show, James might be looking to go for the contest wins, and brings a very good AV and data conversation to the show. Bill discusses how he’s winding down for the year, and talks wine and music too. A true AV and drones trivia question for this group, listen in.

Paul talks about the Summit, then he and the group focus discussion on several presentations and topics. Jordan talks about Pexip Infinity Fusion, along with Microsoft Teams and Skype for Business, and just what the industry along with end users are looking at concerning the platforms. Mike’s discussion focuses on his first year anniversary coming up with Verrex as their Director of Global Managed Services, talking about the job as well as his worldwide travels. He talks about the managed services division at Verrex, the outlook for managed services in the industry in general, along with a new, very strategic hire for the division.

Episode 51: InfoComm India, AV Globalization and the IT “Just the Facts” Discussion



Join the Crew Corey Moss and Justin Rexing as they welcome their guest:

Paul Zielie – Manager, Enterprise Solutions at Harman International

(Globally) well-known AV and IT Systems Engineer Paul Zielie joins Corey and Justin to talk about numerous subjects, beginning with Paul’s trip to InfoComm India and his thoughts and perspectives on the show (and Mumbai, where it took place). Corey asks Paul about shows and trends in certain other world markets (Paul also attended Integrate in Australia), along with global industry growth. Justin asks Paul about the effect of globalization concerning jobs, as well as production in and outside of the U.S. Corey then asks Paul about certain technologies and trends in India. Following that is discussion on global AV industry outlook and trends and AVIXA, the AV industry organization.

After this is a discussion focused on IT with Justin, who is a tech manager at Western Kentucky University, which Paul of course joins in on.
